Executive

Director POSITION - RECRUITMENT

 

The Funeral Service Association of Canada (FSAC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to assume the position of Executive Director (ED) and provide leadership and guidance to the Association, its staff and volunteers. As the face and the voice of FSAC, the Executive Director will provide leadership in fulfilling and executing this vision for the advancement and future of the death-care profession. The ED communicates regularly with the membership and affiliated organizations to ensure that they receive appropriate information, service and advice. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be accountable for the day-to-day operations of the organization in addition to leading FSAC to the achievement of its established mandate and long-term strategic objectives.

The ideal candidate is someone with demonstrated success and experience in leading a not-for-profit association; knowledge of the bereavement sector and an understanding of policy issues; experience in advocacy work and government relations; a conference and event planning background; and committed to service excellence. The person we are looking for is creative, dynamic, responsive, collaborative, has a high degree of professionalism and is an excellent communicator. Knowledge of the bereavement sector and French-English bilingualism would be preferential assets.

About You

You are a senior leader with over 5 years of related experience in association management.

Self-Starter: You are a self-starter and goal driven and possess a high degree of motivation and energy. Ability to Accept and Motivate Others: You have the ability to attract and inspire others, including volunteer board members and staff and are open to accept many different types of people. Think Strategically, but Implement Tactically: You see the big picture but are able to implement plans effectively in bite size pieces in order to move the organization forward. Financial Acumen: You understand finances and know how to budget while recognizing both financial opportunities and threats. Ability to Listen: You know how to actively receive input and listen to other viewpoints and collaborate well with others. You are a disciplined entrepreneur with a “servant leader” attitude responding effectively to members, board volunteers and committees as well as a diverse membership. Stamina: You have the ability to tolerate long days when needed and still function at a high level. Persistence: You do not let obstacles stand in your way and have a willingness to persevere through difficult times.
